Embracing the Chaos: Navigating Life as a Busy Mum with Possible ADHD

It's time to reflect that 2024 already feels like it's a lot.  As an art teacher, middle leader in a secondary school, and devoted mum, life has been a whirlwind of creativity, chaos, and love and lately it has felt rather overwhelming. Today, I wanted to engage in an open and honest conversation about something that many of us may be quietly grappling with – the potential presence of ADHD in our lives, adding an extra layer of complexity to our bustling routines.

Living in the Fast Lane: Being a mother, a teacher, and an avid blogger is a unique blend of roles, each with its own set of challenges. When you introduce the possibility of ADHD into this dynamic, life can feel like a constant balancing act. From managing the daily to-do lists to navigating the intricacies of household responsibilities, it often feels like we should be able to do it all. It's just laundry, just a quick drive to drop off the children at the next club of the week, a pop to the shop to get tomorrows ingredients for the eldests food tech lesson - so why does it all feel like it continuously takes a toll?

Recognising the Signs: For many of us, the thought of having ADHD has likely crossed our minds more than once. Forgetfulness, impulsivity, and an insatiable need for stimulation can make our daily routines feel like an overwhelming battlefield. It is crucial to recognise these signs and, more importantly, to allow ourselves the grace to seek the support we may need.

The importance of person-centered care in nursing homes

Person-centered care sees service users as equal partners when making decisions about the care that they receive. While this is not always possible, it should be adhered to as much as possible. When someone goes into a nursing home, they can feel that their independence and choice is being taken away, this can to some degree be negated by them being involved in all the decisions made about their care. There is no difference between for profit and nonprofit nursing homes when it comes to their capability to offer person-centered care.

Four Tips to Get Yourself Back Into A Routine

The children have been back for almost two weeks and it feels so good to be easing back into some kind of routine following the summer holidays. I completely thrive on routine and although I welcome September for that very reason, I seem to be struggling to get going! So this week I am to change that (and that's partly why I'm getting back into writing again, while we are here, sorry for the lack of posts!) and do my best to get back into a routine that I love.

Tackling Your Inner Opinion Of Yourself

Many of us will reach a point in our lives where we feel fractured with an opinion that we have generated about ourselves. It might be because you have a native mindset right now, maybe struggling with depression or anxiety. Or it could be outside influences such as a bad relationship that has helped from the opinion, or surrounding yourself with people that are bringing you down instead of raising you up. No matter how it has happened, we can all be in this position at some point in our lives. It isn’t as easy as mind over matter, and so sometimes taking actionable steps can make a big difference. With that in mind, here are some of the things you can do tackle your inner opinion of yourself.

Make Changes Today to Avoid Food Waste

As I'm getting older and maybe (and I say maybe!) getting wiser, I'm becoming more conscious of the amount of waste our family produce. I don't want to be driven by consumerism or negatively impact our environment and so I'm looking to make improvements to the way we live and one of the first areas I know we can definitely improve is the way we shop, eat and minimise waste and prepare food. Some companies are really recognising this, such as Grundig. Recognised for quality, Grundig is a German heritage brand with a 74-year history and well-known for its consumer electronics. In 2013 Grundig launched home appliances in the UK for the first time, exclusively through Currys PC World and really are promoting a more sustainable lifestyle through their brand.

Seven Ways to Change Your Mindset | No. One

Over the next few weeks, I'm going to share with you tips on how to can actively change your mindset so you can have a more positive outlook on life and reach your goals. Whether its to be more happy, successful, motivated - having a positive mindset can help you reach them.

For this first article, I'm going to discuss EQ. EQ is something I hadn't heard of before I decided to take control of my life and actively work to better myself.  EQ is an abbreviation for emotional quotient which basically means a measure of a person's adequacy in such areas as self-awareness, empathy and dealing sensitively with others.

Why a Clean and Tidy Home is Good for your Mental Health

If you're anything like me, then you may have Hinch fever. I have been following Mrs Hinch since she was at 12,000 followers and now she's at over a million. Which is slightly mind-blowing! Her humour an simple cleaning tips seem to motivate the usually unmotivated, including me. She definitely has some magic about her.

With my anxiety levels being pretty high at the moment, usual everyday tasks always seem to overwhelm me and I really struggle to keep on top of things but keeping your home cleaning your home is so important for your health. Sloane and Sloane tub chairs put together this rather shocking infographic outlining just how important it is to have a clean and tidy home.

Mindful Art Activities

Art is becoming a huge part of my life, it's always been something I appreciate and I've always enjoyed creating art but it's never been something I've fully pursued. However, I'm now teaching art again at secondary level and I've fallen in love it with again.

If you follow my Instagram stories you will have seen my doodles, brushing back up on my skills and I can't tell you how therapeutic it's been. I've always been creative, I think my blog and photography has been a great outlet for this. But spending hours sat at the computer has really drained me and having some time away from a screen has been incredible for my wellbeing.

The Happy List #2

Another week has zoomed by, one crazy, hectic, kind of glad it's over but don't want to moan about it, week. Let's just say we've had some quite significant challenges to contend with, not just the head spin of Donald Trump becoming president, but we've reached Friday. That's certainly something to be happy about.

With some challenges, I still think it's incredibly important to reflect on all the positive and good that has happened this week;

Learning to let go of Negativity

Sometimes in life, we can feel trapped. A relationship that's going nowhere, a career that brings you no joy, self-doubt - we've all been there, me included and it's bloody hard. Life has a tendency to knock us down, throw us off course, all of which can cause you to question everything. It's a horrid feeling.

Stress, worry and negativity can leave you feeling defeated - but how about trying to embrace the fear? Help it drive you to succeed or overcome obstacles? Or accept something and just let it go?
