Tips for Managing Family, Work & Studying Online

Managing a family while working and studying at the same time can truly leave you stressed. If that’s not enough, a lot of people even criticise you for even considering to do all three things simultaneously. You hear the usual lines such as, “you have to make a choice – if you want to raise a family, stay at home and take care of your kids. You can’t be a good parent when your time is divided between many other things.” Unfortunately, too many parents believe it isn’t possible to end up choosing both or all three, and usually make the choice of remaining a full-time parent. However, thanks to the new trends in modern technology, juggling these three things is possible. You no longer necessarily need to make an “either, or” decision, but can finally have all three! Here are a few tips on how you can manage.

1. Consider online courses.

Having children means dedicating a huge percentage of your time to their needs, but by opting to study from home, you can take care of your children and earn that degree at the same time. There are many online universities, such as NC IUL, which specialise solely in online education, providing you with more flexibility and along with the option of fully customising and creating your own schedule. Thanks to the rapid pace of technological advancements, many degrees and certificates obtained through these kinds of universities are accepted and accredited just like the regular ones.

2. Work from home.

Many people who choose to start a family know they have to give up on other things. A normal job in an office setting will surely take up most of your time, leaving you with little to dedicate to your family. However, you don’t have to give up on the idea of working and earning. By working from home, you can be physically present for your children while working from the comforts of your home. Jobs such as freelance writing, blogging, virtual assistance are some of the more popular options.

3. Divide your time wisely

If you intend to study, make sure to plan your schedule appropriately. Don’t take courses that actually start first thing in the morning if you have young kids who need your attention at this time of the day. Take a class schedule that leaves you with enough time to do other things. Consider a part-time job or classes that you can do once the children are at school. Plus, schedule the best time for studying, such as for instance when the kids are in bed.

4. Take advantage of available help.

While you probably can manage on your own, seeking help makes things lighter and easier to manage. If your parents are available to babysit while you study or work, make use of it and be grateful! Allow your spouse or partner to help you with accomplishing the tasks so you can cut the time spent in finishing them.

Dividing your time between these three is not going to be an easy thing to accomplish, but is certainly feasible – with enough will, effort and persistency. There will be a lot of sleepless nights, disorderly homes, late dinners and overtime work but once you get the hang of it, everything will go smoothly. Stay focused and never give up. All your sacrifices will end up paying off. Go get your dream.

Career Tips: Interesting Jobs for Working Mums

Image Souce

We live in frugal economic times and with unemployment rising, it is increasingly difficult for mothers to find well-paid employment that is flexible and rewarding. Many women give up on their career once they have had children as the ability to find a job that they can work around childcare becomes increasingly difficult. However, there are many professions out there that are geared towards the working mother and which are in fact well paid.

What's in My Bag? The Working/Blogging/Mum Edit

Being a full time working mum and also a blogger, I tend to have to hoard around a lot of "stuff". My husband always jokes when I lug around my large bag, but it has all the essentials I need in one bag. Which means I rarely have to take out a changing bag.

The bag I use daily is from Accessorize and has three large hand compartments. I split them into "work", "blog"and "Henry" - organised right?! This way I know where everything is depending on which "mode" I'm in.

Full Time Job, Two Children, A Husband, Home and A Blog - How?!

Something that always seems to surprise people about me is when they learn that as well as working full time and run this blog (and make a living). The first thing they will say is "how do you do it all, you have two children too?!". I know, I'm superwomen - right?

Well, actually no.
