Balancing Act: My Journey as a Teacher and Blogger

Picture this: It's 4PM, and I've just finished guiding a class of enthusiastic teenagers through the intricacies of colour theory. As the last student left the art room, I quickly tidied up, my mind shifting gears. In less than an hour, I'll be at home, transforming from Mrs Burgess, the art teacher, to Kay, the blogger behind Mummy Burgess. This is my daily reality – a delicate dance between two passions that fuel my creativity and purpose.

Discovering the Perfect Laptop Backpack: Style & Functionality

As a busy mum, teacher and blogger I tend to have a number of devices that I often need to carry.  My choice of laptop bag should not only safeguard my valuable devices but I want it to look good too. I’m not one for having multiple bags, so if I can have a bag that I can utilise for my laptop and everyday then I’m going to be a happy bunny! I have been on the hunt for something that just fits the bill, especially at the start of the new academic year and in my searching I have managed to find some great ones.

Is SkillShare worth signing up to?

Before I begin this article, I want to be clear that this is not a sponsored post. I simply love the site and wanted to share with you how I have been using it and whether I think it’s worth paying for the subscription. However it does contain affiliate links where by if you choose to subscribe I will receive a free month - I currently have paid a full year subscription out of my own pocket.

During lockdown I have tried my absolute hardest to not spiral into a pit of depression. For many of us this is the stark truth when having to be confined to the house and I have really had to change up my mindset and re-programme the way I view the situation. One thing that has really kept me going is taking on small projects and many of them have stemmed from SkillShare.

How To Maximise Your Side Hustle As A Blogger

If you’re reading this you probably already run a blog and have started to make money as a blogger, if you’re new to the blogging world I would suggest checking out this post first. Making money from blogging has become a lucrative business and makes an excellent option for a side hustle. For me, my blogging journey started way back in 2012 when I was pregnant with my daughter, I started it as a pregnancy journal and it grew from there. I had no intention of making money from it but it soon became a nice little money earner.

With blogging there are a number things you can do to maximise your potential earnings and there are a number of skills you’ve probably built that could bring other earning avenues. Investing in yourself can be equally important, such as going on courses like Impact Factory project management courses, bloggers have many skills that are very transferable to project managing and could be something fantastic to offer to brands who are looking to work with bloggers in new ways.

Rebrand, Refresh

There are plenty of reasons why changing the face of your corporate image might be a great idea. There are also plenty of risks in doing so. What if the move doesn’t work? What if your new look is universally unpopular among staff and customers? There’s no doubt about it, it’s a bold move.If it does work, then you’ve found the silver bullet and successfully created a way out of your image problem. On the other hand, if it doesn’t work you’re back to square one and you’ve spent good money on something that, ultimately, has got you nowhere.

So, how and why would you go for a rebrand? In this short blog we take a look at some of the reasons and how you might go about it.

Upgrade Your Blog With These Innovative Ideas

Most blogs tend to be quite similar to one another. This makes it hard for you to really stand out from the crowd and offer things that other blogs can’t. As a result, you might not get the readership figures you’re hoping for, and it can be challenging to bring in a new audience.

The question is; how can you make your blog stand out?

Well, I have a few ideas that you can try out as I firmly believe they’ll upgrade your blog and give you something extra compared to your competition.

Could blogging be my sole income?

Having my blog as my sole income is something I used to often dream about. The thought of being my own boss, building up my working hours to fit the needs of my family, sounds like a pretty perfect option for me or anyone who's looking for a more flexible way of making an income.

Of course, becoming solely self-employed is not as easy as it sounds and for me, I'm not sure I'm ready or want to make that jump yet. I'm happy being self-employed but I don't think I could ever give up teaching, it's a passion and a financial security blanket for me. But if you're thinking about heading down this route then keep reading because I'm going to talk you through some of the pro's and con's of becoming a full time blogger.

Ways I use my Bullet Journal to Organise my Blog

One of the main things I love about my bullet journal is the fact I can keep track of everything in one place, appointments, memories, deadlines, anxiety, it's all in one place, on hand for when I need it. Completely personal to me. Many who are new to bullet journalling may be wondering what type of spreads (layouts) you could use and how to organise, so I thought I would create a series of posts highlighting just how I use my bullet journal and today I thought I would tackle the topic of blog organisation.

My Desk Space

Do you ever browse through Instagram and Pinterest and admire other peoples workspace? Determined that you too will have an inspiring workspace that you will work from daily and create a ton of cool content? Because that's something I did ever since I started blogging six years ago and I now, finally, have a desk and workspace that I'm proud of and works beautifully for me.

Tips for Winter Photography

Winter can offer up some stunningly beautiful images and in many parts of the world, the snow doesn’t last long; blue sky and snow is a particularly rare combo, too, so you’ll want to get as many good images per shoot as you can - that is if we even get any of the white stuff this year. Winter images work especially well on canvas so if you’re planning to get some canvas prints from Hello Canvas as next year’s Christmas presents, read on to find out how to get the best ones you can.

#BML16

Today I finally went to Brit Mum's Live 2016 thanks to my wonderful sponsors Koo-di. I was full of mixed emotions, incredibly excited but also quite anxious. It's the biggest blogging event for parent bloggers and I kind of wondered whether I would be a fish out of water.

What to include on your blogger business cards | Review

Over the few years I have been blogging I have been to several blogging events and conferences and each time I have attended I have always got annoyed with myself as I didn't have any business cards to distribute. A business card is a fantastic way of putting yourself out there and sharing your details with fellow bloggers or brands. With a few meet ups and events lined up for later in the year, I thought now would be the perfect time to actually get myself organised and make up some business cards.
