Moving house is one of the most stressful experiences one can go through. Upending your entire life and moving all your worldly possessions from one house to another is a huge undertaking, and is often expensive, physically taxing, and frustrating.

The best way to make the move as smooth as possible is to prepare for the big day well in advance. By having your affairs in order several weeks or months prior, you can minimize your stress levels and potentially even enjoy your move. After all, starting life afresh in a new home is exciting!

To get you through the moving process in one piece, here are five tips to help you prepare.

Fix any issues

You don’t want to pass on any faults or damage to the next inhabitants of your home, so make sure you have any issues fixed before moving out. If you are renting, your landlord may withhold some of your deposit to pay for the repairs, so you don’t want to lose money. You should leave your home in the state you found it.

Have a deep clean

You need to leave the house in a suitable state for the people that move in, so a deep clean is essential. It will also enable you to get rid of unwanted belongings, lightening your load for the move. Go through each room of your home, disposing of any clutter and cleaning everything. Make sure to get those hard-to-reach areas like the tops of cupboards and underneath furniture.

Start packing early

It’s not a good idea to leave the packing to the last minute. The earlier you start, the easier moving day will be for you. Start sooner than you think you need to. You never know how long the process will take. Begin by packing up the items you won’t need before the move, such as books, certain clothes, and anything in storage. If you need to take furniture apart to transport it, this is a time-consuming process so make sure you are on schedule.

Enlist some help

Asking a friend or relative to help you with the move will make it so much smoother. Make sure to send them the request well in advance to guarantee their availability. They’ll be able to lighten your load and assist with carrying the larger items. As well as reducing your stress levels and speeding up the work, having someone to socialise with will make the process much more enjoyable.

Hire a removal company

You may think you can handle the move by yourself to save money, but hiring a removal company is the best thing you can do. They will take care of everything, listing and packing your possessions into the van, transporting them to your new home, and unloading them into their proper places. All you need to do is make sure the boxes are sealed and labeled before they arrive.

Following these tips will make the moving process so much easier and more efficient. Good luck!
