Your Kitchen: Creating a Cooking Space You Love

Ever dreamed of working a kitchen in the style of Antony Bourdain or Alice Waters? Then you’ll need to put together a cooking area that helps you achieve your culinary goals.

You don’t need to have a multi-million-dollar, restaurant-worthy to whip up delicious meals (though if you have access to one, then go for it!). Even making a few changes to your kitchen can make it easier — and more fun — to spend a couple of hours in the kitchen, preparing a dish that will wow your friends, family, and, most importantly, yourself.

Upgrade Your Utensils

As with all things, the tools you use for the job will determine the outcome. You’ll find it much easier — not to mention a lot less stressful — to prepare a big meal if you have quality kitchen utensils by your side. There are some things that anyone with ambitions to become a capable chef needs access to, including a heavy-duty pan set, a quality mixing bowl, and a blender. You’ll find that you’re much more likely to spend time in your kitchen if you have a fun collection of cooking gadgets to play around with.

Consider a Remodel

The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in the house — and that’s reflected by the fact that it’s one of the primary things that potential home buyers look for. But whether you’re planning to sell or not, it’s also worth ensuring that your kitchen is in tip-top condition. Why? Because you’ll simply be much more likely to spend hours cooking if you genuinely enjoy the space. If your kitchen is beginning to show its age, then consider a remodel. There are affordable in frame kitchens available that can give you an aesthetically pleasing, highly functional kitchen without breaking the bank. Once you’ve gone through the remodeling process, you’ll find that you’re much more likely to dig into those old recipe books that have been gathering dust on your shelves.

Think of Storage and Countertop Space

If there’s one thing that can dampen your enjoyment of cooking, it’s having to do so in a cramped space. All good chefs are artists, and an artist needs space to work. You can maximise your enjoyment of the cooking process by rethinking your storage and countertops, working to make them both as expansive as possible. It’s possible to expand countertop space even in small kitchens.

Focus on Ambiance Lighting

Harsh overhead lighting is practical, but it’s not exactly inviting. Low, atmospheric lighting, on the other hand, allows you to really create the right ambiance for your kitchen, increasing the chances that you’ll want to spend time there. In addition to lighting, it’s worthwhile looking for other ways to help make the space more beautiful — for example, adding artwork or ceramics to the space.

And remember, the ambiance will always be enhanced by having other people in the kitchen. Adding a social element, such as a breakfast bar or seating, will turn the kitchen into a hangout spot that brings warmth to the home.
