Top tips for choosing a school for your child

Choosing a school for your child can be one of the most daunting and stressful tasks as a parent. Trying to find the most perfect school is literally impossible but does it stop us from worrying? Of course not. There are many things to consider such as style of teaching, sizes of classrooms, morals and what the school has to offer as a whole. Knowing your child will be making most of their friends there, as well as be spending a good few years of their life within these premises, makes this task that much harder. But don’t fret. Here is some advice from a prep school in Surrey on how to narrow those thoughts down to try and find the right school for your child.

Be prepared.

Start your search a couple years in advance so you get the time to do full research and prepare any questions you may have for the schools. Visit some potential winners on open days to have conversations with the teachers. This is a great way to get some insight on what you may not be able to read about online. Some schools also have requirements for their pupils so having a good time frame will have both you and your child ready. Another thing to note is that applications start earlier than you’d think, keep an eye out for deadlines and get your child enrolled as soon as possible to avoid any disappointments.

Is it practical?

Consider the distance of the school as well as other factors. As great as the school can be, it could raise to be an issue when drop off and pick up times are lengthier than desired. If your child is older, look out for bus routes in the area that will be safe for them to use regularly.

Trust your instinct.

No school is going to be perfect but each does its best for its students. Talk to other parents who are experiencing the same pressure as you and you’ll realise you’re not in it alone. Use the support of your partner too. That combined with a whole lot of research will allow your child to set foot on a whole new journey with ease.
