The different uses for microneedling

Microneedling has been a popular treatment method for many years now. With some tracing its routes back to the ancient Chinese practice of acupuncture, microneedling as we now know it has a wide variety of uses and benefits.

For this article, we have teamed up with Aesthetics Lab, an award-winning cosmetic clinic based in London that offers microneedling along with other treatment plans. As life edges ever closer to returning to normal, many people are heading back to clinics such as Aesthetics Lab to have treatments such as microneedling. With this in mind, highlighting the different uses of this treatment will hopefully be useful for anyone curious about if this is the right treatment for them!

Wrinkles and fine lines

For many people, one of the issues with getting older is the development of wrinkles and fine lines. These can hamper people's self-confidence and add to the long list of challenges we already face in our lives. Microneedling is one of the most effective treatments when looking to reduce the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles. As the treatment stimulates the production of collagen, this helps to give your skin a plump, youthful look and stops it sagging.

Scars and stretch marks

As with wrinkles and fine lines, scars and stretch marks are often completely natural parts of our body. They usually have a story behind them, for example acne, the birth of a child or significant weight loss. However, they can also be detrimental to self-confidence, as we as a society have become used to seeing skin with no imperfections for years. Microneedling can be used to reduce the visibility of scars and stretch marks. The treatment involves tiny needles puncturing the skin in a specific area, such as where a scar may be, to activate the skin's natural healing process. As mentioned above, this includes stimulating collagen production while also encouraging the skin to regenerate and repair itself naturally.

Sun damage and hyperpigmentation

Treating sun damage and hyperpigmentation can be challenging, but microneedling is certainly an option that can help. Having multiple treatment sessions, usually lasting no longer than one hour, on areas of your skin that may be affected can improve its appearance and lighten the dark areas of your skin. The new skin that forms following a microneedling treatment course can match your normal skin tone colour. However, it is always worth remembering that it usually requires multiple treatment sessions for the best possible results, and this is definitely something you would need to discuss with any clinic offering microneedling treatments.

While microneedling may seem like a scary treatment, with the thought of lots of tiny needles going into your skin, this is an entirely safe process, and when carried out by well trained and experienced professionals, the results can be fantastic! Any clinic offering the treatment should be able to talk to you in more detail about if this treatment is right for you and what you hope to achieve.
