Christmas can be a magical time of year for children, watching them as they get excited during the build-up to the big day, writing letters to Santa and opening their advent calendars every morning. While getting everything organised can be stressful, seeing your kids so enthusiastic can be just as exciting for you. So, why not make it even more magical by arranging some festive family activities?
Start some new family traditions this year by trying some of these…
Create Your Own Advent Calendar
Although you can buy a huge variety of advent calendars, from chocolate to cheese, there’s nothing better than making your own. While this can cost a little more, this allows you to design an advent calendar filled with things your kids will love. It can also become a fun tradition that can help get your kids into the Christmas spirit. To do this, all you need to do is place toys, chocolate or treats into 24 bags, envelopes or drawers.
Write Your Christmas Cards Together
For many of us, writing Christmas cards is still important, helping us to keep in touch with friends and family who live further away. Kids also love to do this for their classmates at school. So, why not make this a yearly tradition for the whole family? You could make some festive hot chocolate, put on some Christmas music and write all your cards together. You can even add have some fun and be creative by making your own handmade cards.Celebrate While Decorating the Tree
As a much-loved tradition, many of us look forward to decorating the tree every year. So, what can you do to make this even more special for your family? You could allow your kids to select a new bauble for the tree each year. Not only will this let them feel like they have a say in decorating it, but it will add loads of lovely memories, too. Alternatively, why not have fun in the kitchen by baking your own baubles?
Give Back to Others
For kids, a lot of the excitement around Christmas comes with getting lots of presents. However, as adults, we know that there can often be more enjoyment from giving gifts than receiving them.Help to teach your children this by donating each Christmas. A simple way to do this is by asking them to give away their unused toys or clothes. This could be a lovely heartfelt tradition that also clears space for their new presents.
While there are loads of Christmas traditions, like putting out food for Santa and his reindeer and watching festive films, try some of these ideas to create your own family traditions that you can all enjoy, year after year.
