Yes, after two years, yes two, I finally have the reading bug back. Now, of course, I read every day, articles online, my favourite blogs but I haven't actually picked up a book properly in so long. This week I have almost completed two books! I'm not sure what's spurred it one but I'm feeling a little bit grateful that I've managed to get back into the habit.
Reading offers so many benefits and to be honest I'm always happiest when I've got a book on the go. It offers you the chance to escape from reality for a while, immerse yourself completely to a level that a movie or tv show just can't do. No matter how much stress you have at work, in your personal relationships, or countless other issues faced in daily life, it all just slips away when you lose yourself in a great story. A well-written novel can transport you to other realms, letting tensions drain away and allowing you to relax. In addition to the relaxation that comes with reading a good book, it’s possible to bring about immense inner peace and tranquillity. Reading can lower blood pressure and bring about an immense sense of calm while reading self-help books has been shown to help people suffering from anxiety and depression.
This week I've had the pleasure of reading Marie Kondo's 'The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up', which you've probably all heard of as it's a popular read by bloggers. It's really given me the push that I've needed to go through the house and properly start to de-clutter. My home already feels tidier and I'm slipping into new habits which is keeping my home and head free of clutter.
Today I picked up another fantastic read, Sarah Knight's 'You Do You' and I think this may be the book that transforms my mindset. I genuinely feel that I'm having a glass of wine with a friend when I'm reading her books. I laugh, cry and randomly shout "THIS" throughout. It's definitely a page turner and gets you thinking about your own life and how you wish to live it.
So with this in mind I would love to hear what your favourite books are, I'm open to all. Fiction, self-care, graphic novels share with me all the things that have brought you joy.
