Family Days Out with English Heritage: Exploring Framlingham Castle

Post was first Publish back in 2017 - Reposted for 2024 with updated ticket price.

With the summer holidays in full swing, we're doing our best to ensure the kids are not only entertained but that we also create some special family memories. While I've spent some days up to my elbows in cuddly toys, picking playdough out of the carpet, and trying to resist saying "no" over and over again, we've had some lovely days out and have more planned on the calendar.

On Sunday, we planned a family day out to Framlingham Castle. You may remember that we visited Framlingham earlier this year and had always planned to head back to explore the castle further, knowing the kids would love it. I remember visiting the castle as a child with my family (and once with my school), and it always filled me with wonder.

Framlingham Castle is an impressive site. Fans of Ed Sheeran will recognize it as the inspiration behind his song "Castle on the Hill." The castle's history is fascinating and clearly visible in its structure, showcasing its development over time. Our eldest was full of questions, and I loved seeing her so inquisitive about the castle's history. For my little man of few words, we got a lot of "Wow, castle!" - I'm taking that as the Henry seal of approval.

What I love about English Heritage is their passion for preserving history while ensuring visitors have the best experience. Framlingham Castle is perfect for families, offering a relaxed environment where children can make their own historical reenactments.

We loved the addition of the new café, which offers beautiful food in an even more beautiful setting. The temporary slide was also a big hit, and we went down it far too many times to count! Even my littlest loved it!

To truly enjoy the history this country has to offer, I highly recommend purchasing an English Heritage Annual Family Pass. For £126, you get access to over 400 historic sites across the UK, covering a year's worth of family days out for the price of one!

We’re excited to explore more English Heritage sites in the future.
