Do You Know How Much You Should be Feeding Your Dog?

Every dog is different, so you need to be aware of how many calories your dog is eating per day. Too many and they could get obese, too few and they could be malnourished.

A study conducted by Tails revealed that only 9% of dog owners questioned know how many calories their dog should be getting. As well as this, 29% of people don’t measure out the portions when feeding their dog. This data can be seen in the below infographic from http://tails.com/blog/2017/10/23/dog-food-are-we-feeding-too-much/.

By researching how much your dog should be eating and by accurately measuring portions, you’ll be able to avoid some of the common health and dietary problems that many dogs face.

If you buy dog food that is specific to your breed, you should be able to find information on the packaging that indicates exactly how much to give them. You can also read online forums and guides to quickly get an insight into how many calories they should be consuming a day.

How much you feed them depends on factors such as their breed, weight and how much energy they use daily. For example, Labradors typically need around 1500-1800 calories a day, whereas smaller dogs may only need around 600-700. You can use an online calorie calculator to figure this out if you’re not 100% sure.

If you want to be more mindful of your dog’s health, you need to watch how much you’re feeding them.
